OFF THE WALL began playing the clubs in 1979 as a trio, Vaughn McMillan (guitar/vocals), Jeff Donohoe (bass/vocals), and Mike Byrd (drums/percussion). Steve Brittenham (keyboards/vocals) joined in January 1980. From 1980 to 1983 we played 460 shows, 63 different venues, 21 towns, 6 states. Special gigs included our warehouse parties, the Rockfests at Speedway Park, playing in Albuquerque’s Civic Auditorium and Kimo Theater, opening for Badfinger in Albuquerque, Rail in Bozeman, MT, and Head East in El Paso, TX. In Albuquerque, Bogart’s and Friar’s Pub were our homes away from home. Club gigs were typically 4-1/2 hours a night, 6 nights a week, and you could actually earn a living playing rock music in town.
